Olive View is a county hospital located in the north end of the San Fernando Valley, about 30 minutes away from UCLA. This hospital is one of six operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. The facility is a 220 bed 13-year-old medical center that serves the needs of low income and indigent patients, as well as the surrounding middle class community. As is true with most county facilities, many patients come in with acute, untreated illnesses. Housestaff are exposed to common medical illnesses as well as a wide variety of unusual and rare diseases. The attending staff are faculty members of the UCLA School of Medicine.
